We also invite people studying and working in the field of resource management, ecology, and landscape planning to apply.
The focus of the academic program lies on students AND professionals: we welcome everybody, who is motivated to learn in an intercultural and multidisciplinary environment and would like to build his/her professional network within.
The GBS offers the possibility to learn from the best experts in the field while staying in the amazing City of Vienna! GBS attracts like-minded changemakers and future green builders who aspire to make the world a better place by implementing the gained knowledge in their future careers.
The GBS Summer University is held from July 15th to August 6th, 2023 in Vienna, Austria. After the course, participants get the possibility to expand their stay in the OeAD-Guesthouse by one week for free to get to know Vienna better, one of the most liveable and green cities in the world. This is a great chance to combine your educational trip to Austria with deep diving into the great culture, history and heritage of Vienna and surroundings.
Each year between 50 and 60 participants are admitted to the course.
The GBS is a full-time program taking place for the duration of three weeks (7 ECTS = 175 real hours including a preparation work). Continuous attendance is mandatory to receive a certificate. So if you are unsure about the workload, reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.

GBS is an officially accredited university course by BOKU University Vienna. The program is collectively organized by OeAD student housing together with TU Vienna, University of Vienna, Danube University, FH Technikum Vienna, Austrian Institute of Technology, Marcello Turrini ZT as well as Reinberg Architekten ZT. Find the full list of our partners here.
The main duty of OeAD student housing is to accommodate students in energy efficient residences throughout Austria. We host around 12.000 students per year.
Sustainability is a deeply rooted core value of OeAD student housing and being a non-for-profit organization, we are constantly working on innovative construction projects: CEO Mr. Jedliczka has built globally recognized student guesthouses to the Passivhaus Standard and beyond since 2005. There is the pioneering mobile student home popup dorms in passive house standard constructed from wood; the GreenHouse as very first Energy-Plus student accommodation worldwide and mineroom: the first multi-storey Passive House-Plus student residence built from wood, globally. As a pioneer itself, Günther Jedliczka initiated the GBS and the AEMS Summer University to fight against climate change, resource scarcity and to support the green transformation.
You receive an official university certificate from BOKU University (7 ECTS)**, if applying until April 3rd; AND a participation certificate issued and signed by the main organizers. Both certificates show the modules and ECTS of the course.
**ECTS: European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System, this is used within European Universities to provide a similar scheme for evaluating the workload of a study course.
Please get in touch with your home university about accreditation of the ECTS into your studies beforehand, to clarify if the course is credited at your university. If you need help, please reach out to us, as we can provide respective documents.
Please keep in mind to consider the application deadlines mentioned above.
